How big of a system will I need?

It’s important to make sure you get the right size of panels; too small and it’s not powerful enough, too big, and they’ll be working harder than necessary. The installer will look at your usage (in kWh per day) and how much sun falls on your house throughout the year, then work out how many hours of sunlight each panel receives every day on average – this is called ‘insolation’. With this data and an insolation map, they can work out how much electricity each panel will produce every year and what size system you need.

    Payback Period

The payback period is the time it would take for your investment to be fully repaid. This can be an important factor in deciding whether or not to install a solar panel system. The shorter the payback period, the more financially viable it becomes. For example, if you’d save $300 on your energy bill each year with 1 KW of panels and electricity costs $0.20 per kWh, based on 8 hours of sunlight every day throughout the year, it would take around ten years to get your money back (300/0.2 = 1500; x10 = 15000). At this stage, you’re getting to break even, so you start saving money from then onwards!

Residential solar panels can save you money and time.

Having solar panels installed in your home can save a lot of money in the long run. You will not only save on your electricity bill, but you will also be eligible for government rebates. In addition, solar panels increase the value of your home, so if you ever decide to sell, you’ll be able to recoup your investment.
What’s more, having solar panels installed is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and help the environment. Solar energy is a clean and renewable resource that doesn’t produce any greenhouse gases, so using it helps fight climate change.

Benefits of installing solar panels on your home

Installing solar panels at your home comes with some great advantages. This is particularly true if you live off the mains grid, as solar panels will entirely power your home. Here are some of the benefits of having a residential solar panel system installed:

Save money on your electricity bills: If you install enough solar panels to meet your energy needs, this should mean that you no longer have to pay for electricity from an outside supplier. You can gravity feed any surplus power back into the grid and get paid for doing so. Even if this doesn’t happen though, you’ll still save yourself a huge amount of money because buying electricity from an outside source is seriously expensive!

Helping the environment: Using clean renewable energy like solar means that there are no greenhouse gases produced in powering your home.

What rebates are available for Solar Panels in Canberra?

The federal government’s Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) provides incentives for people who install solar panels, solar hot water systems and/or heat pumps. Under the SRES, you can get one of two possible feed-in tariff rates set at 60 or 40 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), depending on how much energy your system generates.
There are also state government incentives, including a rebate for half the cost of installing solar panels, available to ACT properties with a combined annual income of less than $180,000. The maximum allowable rebate under this scheme is $5,500 over five years.

What happens if my solar panels needs to be changed?

If the solar panels you’ve bought are the right size, but you still need more or less solar power in future, it’s easy to change your system. Your installer can easily add another panel (or more) to your existing array – possibly even without having to move any wires. If you find that one of your panels isn’t working as well as it should, they can quickly replace that. So if solar energy is something you think will work for you now and in future, why not make sure?
